Sherborne Young Musician programme held very successful concerts, competitions and festivals in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The Sherborne Young Musician Competition is run along the lines of the BBC Young Musician of the Year. The competition is for strings, woodwind, brass and piano players as well as solo vocalists up to and including school year 10. In 2018 the Sherborne Young Musician competition and concert have been held and the Douzelage events will be held in July.
The overall winner and Sherborne Young Musician of the Year 2018 was Jessamy from Leweston School who sang beautifully and with character. She was presented with a trophy and cash prize, presented by Cllr. Dominic Elliott, Mayor of Sherborne. The full report and Press Release can be downloaded HERE.
This year the International Douzelage Young Musician of the Year festival, with competition and a concert in Granville France, will take place from 1 – 6 July 2018. Sherborne will be represented by the young musicians shown below:
Sherborne Douzelage is most grateful to Sherborne School and to all its sponsors and is delighted that The Sherborne Abbey Festival is officially a part of this biannual event. Future Sherborne Young Musician events are being coordinated by William Slogrove and Evan Whatley, both good musicians.
